Pink Fluorite on Feldspar
Chamonix, Haute-Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France
Small Cabinet, 6.2 x 4.4 x 3.1 cm
SOLD
This is a classic pink fluorite specimen from Chamonix, with transparent crystals to 2.3 cm on edge (about 3.2 cm tip to tip), in size. They are dramatic and 3-dimensional, just popping up off the plate of matrix. The piece looks good all around, 360 degrees, and the only damage is a shallow cleave on the right side of the main crystal, and a small peripheral contact on the smallest leftmost crystal. The shallow (and seemingly in situ) cleave affects price, of course, but is not so immediately visible that it detracts seriously. One seldom sees this style of soft pink fluorites perched on matrix so elegantly - this shard of feldspar is crystallized underneath, and is itself a floater. David Michaels collection, purchased in the 1990s from Irv Brown collection. For the price range, it is hard to get pink fluorite crystals of such dimensionality, gemminess and clarity, and size.
