An outstanding galena specimen from this very classic locale, where galena was common but specimens such as this level, were never common. Large, well formed, cubeoctahedrons of galena, to 4 cm across , are associated with scalenohedrons of lustrous and translucent, milky white crystals of calcite to 1.8 cm in length. The calcite fluoresces a brilliant, rich orange color. We have had galenas of such size and style before, but the settign against white, crystallized calcite matrix is just much more special! Super combo specimen!

A superb calcite for this classic locale, with unusually large and sharp crystals showing phantoms inside. Emplaced in of a vug of hard gossan matrix are rhombohedrons, to 3.3 cm across, of lustrous and translucent calcite. The calcite rhombs are arranged in a step growth pattern , very dramatically

Nestled atop a curving vug of sulfides is a superb, lustrous and translucent, complex fluorite crystal measuring 4 cm across. Thep astel green crystal is associated with lustrous, black sphalerite crystals to 1 cm across. A druse of tan colored calcite partially coats one face of the fluorite crystal on the backside but it is actually freestanding and complete, all around. The fluorite fluoresces a deep purple and the calcite fluorescence is a terra cotta color. This is a classic Naica fluorite of old style, with stepped faces. The colors are subtle and hard to capture accurately on these -in person, it is more a pastel green

This is a fascinating specimen of multiple generations of growths. A druse of sparkling white quartz has pseudomorphed what once was danburite crystals, to 6 cm in length. Perched aesthetically on the quartz are three beautifully formed scalenohedrons of lustrous and translucent, white calcite, the longest of which is 4 cm . The quartz druse fluoresces a dull orange while the calcite crystals fluoresce a bright orange. Unusual and lovely!

A rare combo specimen! Perched aestheically on matrix are four tabular, glassy and gemmy, bright orange-colored, wulfenite crystals, to 1 cm across. Associated with the wulfenite are small clusters of rhombohedral, white calcite that have a green coating of pyromorphite - rare for the locale. A super, combo specimen!

A glassy and gemmy, pink danburite crystal, measuring 4.8 cm in length, is surrounded by a halo of lustrous and translucent, faintly yellow calcite crystals to 1 cm. The danburite, which is limpid and super gemmy at the termination, exhibits a rich pink color (quite rare from Charcas). THIS IS A SUPERB miniature of way higher than normal quality, and just has a "sparkle" to it that so few possess. It seems a premium price for a "single danburite" and it is, indeed, a relatively high price for a smaller danburite specimen. But it is worth it, in my book

Like a flower perched aesthetically on a matrix of drusy, splendent, galena, is a cluster of lustrous and translucent, milky white calcite. The cluster measures 4.5 cm across. The calcite fluoresces a spectacular, bright orange color (due to minor manganese). Neat association specimen with great aesthetics!

Complex once you look closely...A rhombohedral, lustrous, white, calcite crystal of 4.5 cm across is emplaced on a sulfide matrix along with a few crystals of lustrous and translucent, colorless fluorite crystals to 1 cm across. Most of the calcite rhomb has then been enveloped by a doubly terminated, large, second-generation calcite crystal that mesaures 8 cm across, exhibiting numerous dog tooth terminations. This crystals is lustrous and translucent, ivory colored; and as a bonus it fluoresces a superb, deep, reddish- orange color. Oddly, the original rhomb has a surface fluorescence of light purple. This is an interesting and aesthetic specimen

This combo specimen has a style and 3-dimensionality that make it unique! A druse of brassy yellow pyrite highlights splendent, black sphalerite crystals, to 1.5 cm across and superb rhombohedrons of frosted, lustrous and translucent, ivory colored calcite to 3.5 cm across. The way the calcites climb this specimen and surmount it is aesthetic and exceptional. Interestingly, the pyrites are , on close inspection, pseudomorphs after pyrrhotite and retain the bladed habit of the previous species. The calcite fluoresces a rich reddish-orange color due to manganese content, as a bonus. A wonderful example of sufides and carbonates!

Classic old material, the Santa Eulalia pyrrhotites are seldom seen on the market today in any quality. Superb, columnar, doubly terminated, pyrrhotite crystals, to 4 cm in length with good luster and a tan color , are partially covered by a druse of calcite. There are even a few lustrous and translucent, colorless fluorite crystals, to 5 mm across, attached to the pyrrhotite - I had not personally seen this association before out of thousands of Naica pieces I have seen since the 1980s. The crust of calcite fluoresces a dark reddish brown when lit in UV. The piece displays well horizontal or vertical

An exceptional piece for the locality, where you do not get many good, isolated twinned galenas amidst thousands of normal galena specimens we have seen over the years - This composite crystal of spinel-twinned, lustrous galena also appears to be a complete floater with no visible points of attachment. It is a superb miniature galena, from any locale, although particularly noteworthy for this one

Perched aesthetically on matrix, like a halo, are lustrous and transparent GEM crystals of rich, purple-colored fluorites to 2 cm across. The fluorite crystals fluoresce an unusual cherry red color. Tis was one of the very top specimens from a small pocket found in around 2007-2008, which was brought out of Mexico by dealer and collector Jason New. They were expensive even down in Mexico at the time. Once here, he kept nearly all major pieces including this one, and this was in his special exhibit at Tucson of 2010. I later bought the entire case from Jason, including this specimen. A few minor abrasions do not detract from this aesthetic specimen, because of the significance of this find - still unique in quality and style for Ojuela fluorites. The piece has color and impact for its aesthetics, and is one of a very rarified number of Ojuela fluorites that could hold their own in a worldwide fluorite collection. Joe Budd photos (upper row). Note not from the Heck collection as is the rest of this update...INTERESTINGLY, THIS PIECE FLUORESCES RED UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT

A brilliant cabinet-sized plate of twinned galenas, that look in quality like more modern material from Bulgaria with a brightness you seldom see in this older, Mexican find. Emplaced on a matrix of calcite holding together intergrown sphalerite are many upright galena crystals, to 3 cm across. Most of these galena crystals are also elongated spinel twins. The druse of white calcite provides marked contrast. Very striking and rare in such size, as a display specimen!

Fluorite octahedrons from Naica have never been common compared to the cubic habit, and less so in green color. The octahedrons reach 3 cm across on a side and are slightly frosted, lustrous, translucent and generally colorless in the outer layers. However, they have a rich green color center that emanates from the bottom of the specimen. Compelling, and unique overall! the piece is complete all around.
